About Us
Parable Ink is a Brooklyn based wearable design project. It was born out of expressive necessity & ingenuity in 2003 by founder Angie Velasquez.
She had just moved to New York City to go to Cooper Union & was confronted with some harsh realities of city life that she represented by printing a parking ticket on a tee shirt. The parking ticket tee was her way to publicly and critically sum up a bureaucratic experience with humor. That same year, she created a visually appealing reference to the city by abstracting the subway lines, a nine-color print that still speaks to native New Yorkers and visitors alike. The use of silk screens as a conceptual medium & the Fine Art background of the creators clearly distinguish Parable Ink from other emerging companies who print on apparel.
Many of our printed garments are collaborations involving sourced original clothing from unique fabricators that offer organic and thoughtfully produced fabrics & shapes. These relationships are inspired long-term commitments to making the most distinctive product we possibly can. Parable Ink is also about innovation in perspective & in the experience of reaching the customer.
In the summer of 2009, Angie began spearheading a curated, artisanal, and local year-round Market at the Old American Can Factory. This Market brings together artists, designers, publishers and other creative purveyors from within this historic industrial complex, and from without. It’s the best place to see the newest designs that Parable Ink makes.
